Inspiration
I am a demonstrator, and an avid card and paper crafter. I make lots of beautiful and fun things when I get in my craft space. I did not start off, however, making things like I make now. It's taken time, effort and a lot of frustration and trials to get here. Hopefully I can make your journey a little easier...
When I started making cards, I found it very difficult to come up with ideas. I am not all that inherently creative on my own. I am good at looking at things, copying things or following directions from others. I think that this is why I like going to painting events. I make beautiful paintings... with no talent! Back when I started card making though, I wasn't on the internet that much, and really didn't have places to go to find ideas. I bought magazines, subscribed to one even, but that was a very limited resource, and I didn't have all the "stuff" they did to make the cards look amazing.
I went to a workshop, and that got me interested. I bought a few things, and tried them out. I got frustrated and put things away after throwing much of it out. It took time, but eventually, I got to know better how to use my products, and how to put things together in ways that looked good. Eventually, I started looking online and finding ideas. I have never thrown out a single homemade card that I have received, either! Ideas and inspiration come from all of it.
Now, I sit down with a set that I want to use, go to my computer and search the stamp set name and oodles of ideas come up. One or two will catch my eye and I am off. I am even getting to the point where choosing the set and having an idea of who it is for is enough for me to be able to create lovely things.
I remember that struggle... and offer help, here! It is possible to make wonderful things with very few supplies. Stamps, ink, paper is all you need. Really.
I am linking to a video of someone that gives me a great deal of inspiration - Jackie Bolhuis. She is a million sales demonstrator from the US, and does great videos. I love the cards she makes, and she is so upbeat and positive too! Use the link below and go watch a video she made while at Stampin' Up! headquarters, along with the CEO Sara Douglass. They made SIP cards - stamps, ink and paper. She even showed how to step them up just a bit, and then how to go all the way to avid creator level with the same cards. I love how easy she makes it seem, and I love the inspiration she gives me - even me, the demonstrator myself!
If you would like help to learn how to do this yourself, drop me a note, use my link to find some great Stampin' Up! products, and let's have some fun!
