Not Just Cards...
I started in this journey thinking that making personalized cards was a fun thing to do, and that my cards would hopefully mean something to the people that I made them for. Never did I realize how much more that would become.
I often search on Pinterest or simply on the internet by searching a stamp set, an occasion, colours or anything that pops into my head. As I did, I started to see more and more ideas that were not cards. Home decor ideas and decorations for holidays and gifts were all over the place.
Last year, I decided that I needed to try some of these. I have posted many of my samplers in my blog since I have started it. This one is just another example of what a wonderful gift my cardmaking has become, not just for me, but for others.
My niece got married this summer, and I knew that gift cards would be most useful to her, but my husband and I still wanted to give something to her that was more personal. This was what I came up with.
I used my Painted Seasons cling stamp set to make a background. The colours are a variety of retired and current ones, but I used what worked best for the wedding colours. Smoky Slate, Terracotta Tile, Grapefruit Grove, Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide rounded out the selections. I used a piece of vellum over the top, which I crumpled up and unfolded again first to soften the whole look.
The Hand Lettered Prose dies and the retired Simple Numbers worked perfectly too. I used the dies for Painted Seasons, and cut out some of the flowers, as well as some pieces from Rooted in Nature to make it a little less flowery. Using dimensionals and other adhesives, I layered it all up, added some sequins and ribbons, and put it all in a dollar store frame that my daughter used some chalk paint on. I think the whole thing turned out great.
Oh, and the scraps from it all? I used those to make the card and envelope to go with it. :)
