Goals... and not reaching them
At Christmas time, I was doing well with my crafting, had time to sit and do the things I wanted to, made cards for all that I wanted to send them to. I sat down and resolved (yes... New Year's Resolutions, those things we think about, decide on and then never seem to follow through with) to work on my blog, and to work on my crafting and my Facebook group page at least once per week.
Well, we are now into March and that just hasn't happened. Great ideas... large motivation... and no follow through. I think the cards I posted today are nearly all I have made since Christmas break.

What happened, you might ask? Life. Yes, COVID life has given us all the time in the world at home it may seem, but the other parts of life have not stopped for me. I am a teacher. I teach full time in a split grade 1/2 class. I have a 45 minute drive each way, and all the work that goes along with it. The life of a teacher leaves me pretty tired each evening, and it seems that all I am prepared to do at the end of the day is sit with my husband, maybe make supper... or not... and go to bed sometime by 9 or so. I am usually asleep well before 10 each night. When I am getting home at 6, that doesn't leave much time for anything else.

I know, I know... excuses. We all have them, but how do we get past them? It seems each year this happens. I have a baby gift that I need to get on making as it is becoming kind of my "thing" to give to my nieces and nephews as they have their own children. Their baby is now getting big, too big for the one thing I did get I am afraid, and I still have yet to make the shadow box picture for him. There is a dear friend that is having one in April, and I am afraid that the first won't be done until I get to that next one.
I guess something I wrote on a Facebook post about advice to a new teacher should be something that I take to heart myself. BE KIND TO YOURSELF. At the end of the day this is just my job, not my life.
Crafting... it is a bit of both. I am a Stampin' Up! independent demonstrator, starting solely to benefit myself with the discount that provides me. I want to make it into more, and yet... then it really IS a job. I aspire to make it that, but at the same time, want to enjoy and be able to make it what I want it to be, when I want it.
Oh well...I will continue on my path, try to have the occasional workshop, even though I have not yet figured out how to do that in this current COVID world in any effective way...
I hope that this reminds you to be kind to yourself too. Life gets in the way sometimes of the things that you want to do or be. It's ok. If it is really meant to happen, you will find a way.
