Colours are a great starting point...
Every summer, it gets to a point where I start to think about making some things for my students for the start of school. This summer is no different. I actually pulled a bunch of stamp sets a while ago with a similar feel to them, and ones I thought my kids would enjoy. Today, I chose the colours.
Colours are a great start point for a project. This time, I went through my boxes of paper and found the card stock that was the odd ones- ones that I had a few remaining sheets, were long ago retired, and particularly those that I had no identifying name for.
I started with those and began to cut. I used the Tag Topper punch to make the top of the bookmarks, and a smaller but still large tag punch from Michael's for the other tags. I still have a lot of punching left to finish before I get to the stamping part.
The first set of colours I chose I didn't quite like the feel, so I dug through some more card stock I wanted to downsize (non Stampin' Up! And remembered why I am getting it gone as I cut the flimsier grade of paper) and re focused. Then I found some Michael's print cardstock I had laying around that fit really well with the colour scheme I had going and voila... I have the beginnings of some cool stuff!
I will keep updating this post as I make progress on the projects. By the time I am done, I hope to have a bookmark, a card and several small tags for each student in matched sets.
Update 1: A friend joined me today to help me work on coloring and cutting. She had a great idea for the layout, and I worked at assembling the first few. Little pink pigs are always a good thing, right?
Update 2: I got to work quite earnestly last week and finished up the bookmarks and the tags, and even made cards from the scraps too.
The bookmarks will get ribbons after the kids choose theirs, their name is written in the back and they get laminated. I am hoping that they are a bit sturdier this year as I double up the paper at the top this time.
The tags, which I used last year to help with social distancing and having an easy way of making quick groups, we're more useful than I imagined, so they are back again. They are 8 cllours, have 5 patterns, and 6 shapes between them all. Some of my kids come in having troubles identifying letters and numbers still, so these are an added way of identifying their groups that works for all of my students.
When I was done, I decided to use up the scraps from everything to make some small note cards. I will hand write them each a card to welcome them to my class on their first day. These will be accompanied by a fun pencil and eraser and their bookmarks too.
I dont know how many of my littles appreciate these things, I know that some have told me they still have their bookmarks years later, but regardless... I enjoy making them and sharing something I love to do with each of them.
