Creativity challenges...

I needed to get some card making done this weekend.  Lately, I have been crafting lots, bit I have been making templates.

Jackie Bolhuis, a demonstrator in Michigan with a business called Klompen Stampers, has been posting videos on YouTube about Fun Fold cards. Each month, she and her husband have made 4 different templates. She gives all of the measurements and they show how to put them together. I have to say that some were a bit tricky, but it was fun. I finally got caught up last week and have 40 different templates in my photo box, complete with measurements and instructions right on them.

Anyways, I digress. This weekend, I sate down to make a card for a family member. I got out a pad of paper that I found going through my stash that I have had for a while. It had pretty coliurs, floral and patterns, and appealed to me as I flipped through. I tore out some papers that I liked, and set off to find solid colours to go with them.

Once I had all my coliurs and papers picked out, I decided on a stamp set. This choice was mostly driven by the sentiments I wanted, but it also was partly due to the Eden dies that I just received. I looked up Eden's Garden images and really liked the banner die in this set. It works perfectly with the sentiment "Hello There", and I had a plan after that.

One of the images had a simple background and it spoke to me right off. (Thanks LovenStamps.com for the CASEd idea!) I could use a variety of the papers, and tone down some of the busier but pretty papers I had chosen.

I had pulled a couple of colours to use as bases and mats. I love the pink, but the green turned out a bit more subtle and subdued.

Once I had a full half dozen of this style of card, I found I had a bunch of scraps and pieces (as always seems to happen). I decided to see what I could put together without using the internet as a spring board this time.

I chose a colour, my favourite pattern and dug in. It was a bit smal for the card front, and very busy on its own, but pairing it with a tag that was also in the pad of paper and some Stampin' Up! woven ribbon, it hinkle it came together very well.

Two more followed quickly after. The Eden dies were the focus here. One was an edge die, and I was curious to see what I could do with it. Honestly, I was ready for it to bomb, but I was quite happy with the results!

Now, back to the templates I started to tell you about earlier. I still had some paper out that was crying out to be used up. I went to my template collection to see what I could find. There are 40 different ones after all!  The first I pulled I realized the coliured card stick was not cut properly for, so it went back. I found another that would be great for pieces that I had. The red and grey card in the next picture is the template. It has measurements all over it, including base sizes and scoring marks written on the back. I messed with some of the piece sizes a bit, but I think the end result turned out well. (I did start by making the "hinge" piece out of the wrong yellow, and then cut instead of scored the fold line. It's just card stock, right?)

I am pretty proud of the nearly half dozen cards I made yesterday. I have gotten good at CASEing other people's ideas,  but making my own? That is a whole other level of anxiety right there.
