Take to the Sky

The products that are available for stamping and card making are often ones that work well for a specific part of the population: feminine identifying people. Florals, pretty colours, past times that appeal to females. It is often that you see people asking for help making masculine cards. I honestly think it is because crafters tend to buy the things that appeal to themselves, and then when they need to make something for someone... their collection is lacking.

I like to buy things with all of the people that I love in mind. I have giraffes and travel sets for my middle daughter, cats and cute things for all three of my daughters, retro sets and quirky sets for my oldest, and fantasy based things and all things spooky for my youngest. My husband is the reason for this set though. He LOVES planes. He worked for many years for aviation companies. He was never involved directly with the operation or fixing of the planes, but he worked in the store rooms, with the parts, and eventually became a receiving inspector before retirement. This set is perfect for him.

I ordered this set as a pre-order item available to demonstrators before the catalogue goes live. When it arrived, I started playing with it right away. My youngest, who still lives at home, and I are working on a new decor piece for our kitchen. I use shadow boxes to frame paper samplers and designs that we create. That one is not yet done, so sharing it will have to wait for now.

As we sifted through the papers trying to pick a background, I found there was a piece that had panels and tags to cut out.. so I did. They sat as we crafted, and waited. Until today.

I won't say which one is my husband's birthday card, but his is in this collection. I love how it turned out. The colours were ones that I pulled from the paper. Stampin' Up! makes that easy. The coordinating colours for the paper are printed directly on the covering card in the package when it arrives. This set has Mossy Meadow, Boho Blue, Copper Clay, Night of Navy and Smoky Slate. I love this combination, but then I am partial to blues.

Each of these card has a panel from the one sheet of 12"x12" DSP on the front. I used these in different ways. Simply cutting them apart is a great start. The green and grey cards, I used a blending brush to blend ink into the panels to give a bit more depth to them. Some of the tags were matted. One I made with a thought of a polaroid in my head. I used templates that I have in my box of ideas to make some of the cards. There are so many things that you can do with these panels as starters.

I used the sentiments from Adventurous Skies, as well as the plane and cloud images. I only used one of the dies from the die set, but there are so many things that you can do with them. There is even a plane that you can make without the stamps just by cutting and assembling the pieces that you cut with the dies.

I think this is one of those sets that will remain in my collection long after it retires. I am a hobbyist as well as a demonstrator, and I keep lots of what I buy for my own personal use. I have other plane sets, but I think this one is my new go to. I will likely buy some more DSP so that I have that for the foreseeable future. I know that I will miss it when it is no longer available.

I hope you enjoy this set as much as I have.
