Gift card... cards

Gift cards can be a contentious gift for some, but personally I have grown to love them. They allow the person I gift them to to make their own choices and get something they will actually use and love. I know I have received many gifts over the years that have been appreciated for their intent, but have just missed the mark.

The one thing I don’t like? the little envelopes they come in, or throwing them loosely into a card only to be dropped and lost. Here is my solution for that!

These cards have a little pocket inside the cover that you can slip a gift card into. The card is simply a regular half sheet card that has an extra score mark on the cover. This is folded inside and adhered to the inside in order to make a pocket. Use a punch to make a little finger opening to make it easier to remove the card once it is. Any punch will do, it's just there to give a better space for grabbing the card.

I chose three different DSP types (4 sets in all) to make my cards, but honestly any DSP will do. You can even make them with holiday paper and colours for Christmas. I may have to update this post later with some of those, come to think of it...

For the first set, I used the set A Little Latte. It is an online exclusive set that I bought a little while ago, but this was the first time I have actually taken the time to use it. I am sold! I love the paper, yes, but the stamp set is truly wonderful as well. Along with using Pecan Pie, it makes such a great coffee looking stained card. It would work so well with a card from your favourite coffee shop for the coffee lovers in your life. I think I know one or two of those in our family alone. I may have to use these ones and make some more.

Next, I used Take to the Sky to make a couple of more masculine cards for the men I love. Father's Day or birthdays are great times to gift something to the ones that you hold dear. I chose the papers that lent themselves to blues and greys, but this set also has Mossy Meadow and Copper Clay to round out these dusky neutrals. Any of these papers, along with the Adventurous Skies bundle or just simply some sentiments, will make for a great card at any time.

Lastly, who could forget to use the pretty floral papers that Stampin' Up! always has to offer. One of the best ones ever to have been made is definitely the Flowering Zinnias DSP. It is another online exclusive, and I hope that it sticks around for a little while longer. The blues come from the Countryside Inn DSP, a set for the blue lovers like me. I added to these some sentiments and used the Irresistible Blooms stamps to round out the focal points.

Next time you need a way to give a gift card, use a handmade gift card card (that's a mouthful!) to do it. Check for the tutorial on my page or make an order in June and receive the tutorial for free!
